A solid fifteen carat gold pin featuring a beautifully hand painted vitreous enameled yacht burgee flag sitting in the center of a life preserver with hand braided fine gold wire rope detail around it. The yacht club burgee flag is a unique flag that represents each yacht club across the world, and is flown by members of the club's on their yachts. The flag in this case is has not been identified. It appears to be a blue castle front atop a red flag with white cross. The only flags similar are that of the Royal Italian Yacht Club, and the Royal St. George Yacht club. However, neither have the desticintive design. Either way, the re white or blue base with a cross signifies a club with Royal lineage.
This particular pin can be worn through a tie, or lape,l and would add a splendid nautical look to any outfit. The pin is hand engraved "15ct" on the back, which is a standard of gold used in England and finally phased out in 1932 as either nine or eighteen carat became the more used standards. This therefore dates the piece to around the turn of the 20th Century. It is in wonderful condition, untouched, and comes in the fitted antique box.
